01 · EXPERIENCED. TESTED. QUESTIONED.
No second-hand
knowledge
AI can organise information. It cannot experience travel.
What you find here does not come from copied rankings. It is knowledge gained through more than 45 years of independently organised international travel: experienced, tested, questioned – and sometimes learned the hard way.
I have done more than simply visit countries, cities and regions. I have planned flights and stopovers, selected hotels, solved technical failures, transported medication, secured communication channels and mastered situations in which suddenly nothing went according to plan.
NEW AGE 55+ TRAVELERS is created for discerning travellers aged 55 and over. At the same time, every younger globetrotter is welcome who wants to travel not only farther, but with greater confidence.
THE AIRBAG PRINCIPLE
Good travel knowledge is like an airbag in a car: you hope you will never need it. But when something happens, it can make all the difference.
My aim is not to turn every journey into a safety seminar. Quite the opposite: good preparation creates freedom. It leaves room for spontaneous encounters, unfamiliar routes, new countries and those special moments that remain vivid years later.
I want to show how many problems can be avoided or solved – so that the joy of travelling remains at the heart of the experience.
02 · THREE PERSPECTIVES
What comes
together here
Years of international travel experience
Europe, Asia, North America, the Caribbean and many other regions. I am interested not only in sights, but in people, culture, organisation, technology and independent travel.
Years of IT and technology expertise
Tickets, bookings, banking access, communication, navigation and documents now often live on a single device. Backups, alternative access routes and reliable emergency plans therefore belong in every travel preparation.
Years as a manager · state-certified pharmaceutical representative
Medical expertise meets planning, responsibility, communication and the ability to solve complex situations – as informed travel guidance, not as a substitute for individual medical advice.
03 · WHY I PASS IT ON
Travel is more
than a destination
For me, travel does not mean a package holiday. It means experiencing unknown places, meeting people, expanding my horizon and feeling a deep sense of inner contentment.
Like Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.
There are days in life when you think: “I should have stayed in bed.” Remembering journeys, experiences and encounters that have earned a permanent place in your memory can turn that day into a good one again.
The memory of your travels gives you wings.
04 · INDEPENDENCE
Hit or miss
After two days, I know
Who has not experienced this on a guided tour? Just when a place becomes beautiful and interesting, it is time to move on because the clock is ticking. Somewhere else, you think: we could have skipped this entirely – but no, now you have to sit through it.
That is exactly why I love independent travel. I almost always book a four- or five-star hotel for only two nights at first. Hotel photographs can be deceptive, reviews are a matter of taste, and the properties at the top of a portal are not necessarily the best ones.
I stayed at the Waldorf Astoria in New York when I was just 24; many other luxury hotels followed. That is why I never rely blindly on booking platforms.
After two days, I usually know whether it is a hit or a miss. Then I ask at reception: “Your hotel is truly first class. I would like to stay longer. What could you offer in terms of an upgrade, breakfast included or a preferred rate?”
If the answer is, “You will have to book through Agoda or Booking.com,” that is the wrong answer. To me, it translates as: “I really cannot be bothered with that.” And what do my readers do? They ask for the front desk manager – and a wonderful day can begin again.
On my most recent journey to South Korea followed by Thailand, that is how a two-night booking on an island turned into a dream four-week stay at a five-star hotel.
